It Counts as a Post!

I'm off having fun at Great America today so here's a lame survey-filler-post for y'all. Random questions about hubby and me. I'll try to keep the answers as amusing as possible.

♥ What are your middle names?
Elizabeth & Richard. Which amuses me because our middle names sound like snobby, upper-class tennis club members. Which is the complete opposite of us.

♥ How long have you been together?
Seven years in October. Married for just over fifteen months.

♥ How long did you know each other before you started dating?
*prepares for onslaught of emails/texts/phone calls* Well, we actually found each other online. So the first time we actually met was on our first date. But it was only about three weeks from our first date that we decided we were serious. So which time span do you want to count? A month of talking online before we went out, or three(ish) weeks between first date and serious relationship.

♥ How old are each of you?
Old and older. He's older. Actually, 27 and 30. Which isn't "old" by most standards, but we definitely can't stay out late and party like we used to.

♥ Whose siblings do/ did you see the most?
It's pretty close, but probably his. At least his brother. We're BFFs.

♥ Do you have any children together?
Not yet. We're crazy in the fact that we wanted to get married and have established careers first. We're such rebels.

♥ What about pets?
None at the moment. We're waiting until we own a house.

♥ Which situation is the hardest on you as a couple?
Finances. For sure. Isn't that the hardest thing for everyone? Except rich folks. Then I guess their problem would be something silly like which country club they should join.

♥ Did you go to the same school?
Nope. We went to the same JC for a bit, but not at the same time.

♥ Are you from the same home town?
We didn't grow up in the same town, but he was born in mine.

♥ Who is the smartest?
I would be facetious and say I am, but honestly he probably is. But not by much.

♥ Who is the most sensitive?
That would be me. I cry at the stupidest crap on the face of the planet. Just last week he walked in to find me crying over So You Think You Can Dance. I think he questions my sanity every once in a while.

♥ Where do you eat out most as a couple?
Totally depends. We're the type of people that get stuck on one thing for a month or two and then all of a sudden we're craving something else and that's our new go-to place. There's a lot of pregnant jokes in our house.

♥ Where is the furthest you two have traveled together as a couple?
Vegas. Hopefully next year we'll be hitting Florida.

♥Who has the worst temper?
That would be me. Although I think it's less of a question of temper and more a question of self-control. I'm mouthy.

♥ Who does the cooking?
Both of us. But as far as trying new things it's usually me. Then he falls down and worships me for the domestic goddess that I am. Next time I have a successful recipe I may demand a crown...

♥ Who is more social?
Definitely me. But I think that's the case with most couples I know.

♥Who is the neat Freak?
Neither of us.

♥ Who is the more stubborn?
We're both stubborn, but I totally take the title and rock the "Little Miss Stubborn" sash there.

♥ Who hogs the bed?
Me. Although there have been random times where he does.

♥ Who wakes up earlier?
Depends on our schedules.

♥ Where was your first date?
Lunch at TGI Fridays. The A's were playing on the television sets and I think he was a little turned on by how into baseball I was.

♥ Who has the bigger family?
Him. No question there. The number of first cousins is somewhere in the eighties or nineties I believe.

♥ Do you get flowers often?
Nope. But that's okay.

♥ How do you spend the holidays?
Trying to split it between the families. For the most part. Easter is always with his side because there's no wee ones on mine. The Fourth is with whoever has the most alcohol and the best food. haha...

♥ How long did it take to get serious?
Threeish weeks. I could count, but I'm far too lazy and I doubt you care that much.

♥ Who does/ did the laundry?
Both of us. Although sometimes he's too scared of what he might shrink/bleach/ruin so I'll do it.

♥ Who’s better with the computer?
Him.

♥ Who drives when you are together?
Usually him. And it's funny that that question is there because my sister-in-law's fiance just asked me that yesterday (he didn't want to drive and was trying to convince sis).

There. More random stuff you didn't quite care enough to ask about my husband and I. Actually, if you do have any random questions (that I'll actually answer) shoot me an email. Or leave me a comment. That might be kind of fun.

Wish List Wednesday

Time for me to show you things that would make me happy if they appeared on my doorstep! This week I went with plain and simple t-shirts. I'm all for a clever message on my shirt. Any of the following would be acceptable.

Important to know. I'll be needing an additional one for hubby. Although we do have our plan set for the inevitable zombie attack... From 6dollarshirts

Haha, I know I'll have to explain this one to you. The plan is for some unsuspecting person to see your shirt and ask, "What's 'updog?'" To which you reply, "Nothin' dog, what's up with you?" If you didn't get that, say it out loud. And forgive my stupid juvenile, stoner humor. From 6dollarshirts

I love some good math humor. This made me laugh loudly. I would seriously wear it. Don't question my math nerdiness. From snorgtees

This is LEGIT! I grew up with Pluto as a planet. It's still a planet in my solar system. From snorgtees

This is just great. No further explanation needed. From snorgtees

Again, no explanation needed. Although I would definitely show my age in this one. From snorgtees

Ahahahaaaaa! Love it. Also from snorgtees
So yeah, if you ever need a good idea for a gift for me, look for a clever shirt. Math-related humor gets bonus points.

Update

So apparently the video from Monday's post was deleted. Lame. Sorry if you didn't get to see it.

And today's post was written last night so my days look a little confused. But I'm far too lazy to edit it to make it more accurate.

Thought some might care to know.

Back to Craziness

Tad wanted to come home with me on Saturday from a party with the family. So of course we let him. And you know that means fun and craziness will be going on around here.

This afternoon we made a diorama for the dinosaurs my mom bought him a couple weeks ago. (Side note: he's FINALLY starting to love dinosaurs and this makes me BEYOND excited) We also went to the library (where he got two dinosaur books, and one that I was stoked for, and two other ones).

Tomorrow is the movies (this kid is totally scoring on the movies lately, this will be the fourth he's seen in the past two weeks... and that's with a week of not being here with us). And we'll probably decorate a couple shirts with some iron-on transfers we picked up last time he was here. He and hubby will have adventures while I tutor. Then he and I will have adventures while hubby goes to jiu jitsu. Probably head out to buy some supplies for crafts to come later in the week.

I swear that I'll get some pictures up this week. There's a lot going on here already. Then Thursday we're heading off to Great America with hubby's mom, step-dad, and three of the kids. There will obviously be pictures (especially since Spongebob is there and I think Tad will have a brain hemorrhage when he sees him).

"Insanity" is the word of the week over here.

Along with "sleep deprivation."

Goodness

Goodness just for you. I had another post planned, but it got shelved while looking up goodies from Comic-Con this year.

And yes, I'm a nerd and followed all the goings-on at Comic-Con closely. I'm also 99% sure hubby and I are going next year. I'm also 90% sure I will dress up at least one day if we go.

Anywho, I found this link via Twitter. Apparently there was some extra goodness regarding Where The Wild Things Are. This featurette has an interview with Maurice Sendak! And once again, I proved my wimpy girliness by tearing up as I watched it. I seriously don't know if this movie can come soon enough for me!

So watch and enjoy. And marvel (like I did) at what Mr. Sendak says at the end of the video.

Friday Fo' Sho'

I am so ready for it to be Friday. We had S.U.R.F. Adventure Camp at church this week, which is similar to Vacation Bible School, except it's only for our fifth and sixth grade kids. Every morning. Nine to noon. Except we, as staff, need to be there early.

Can I just tell you I'm tired?

There have been a couple mornings I thought I would lose my voice. Because we split the kids into two teams and have been having competitions all week. I'm competitive. And loud. So there has been much cheering, chanting and shouting with my team. And I came home feeling a bit sore yesterday from a fierce tug-o-war game. Scott (our pastor in charge) decided it would be amusing to pit me against my aunt (who's on the other team, grrr...). The kids went CRAZY and I totally won. But I can feel it in my back and shoulders now.

So anyway, I'm glad to have a break from forty-plus kids every morning.

And since it's Friday, I bring you amusing videos. And since I spent my week with kids, I give you amusing kid videos. Enjoy. And have a relaxing weekend.

Ha, I love this kid. "Remember to ret her into your heart."

These babies freaked me out a little the first time I saw this commercial, but I'm actually kind of a fan of it now.

I just found this yesterday while blog-stalking. HILARIOUS!

Movie Review

Hubby and I went to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince yesterday. I have been waiting for this with a mix of excitement and fear. I loved the first four movies. Then came the fifth. And I was... disappointed. I wish there could be a do-over. It was just... wrong. It didn't fit with the other ones. So yeah, I was definitely worried about this one.

But thankfully, I left pleased. Yes, I liked it.

Now, that's not to say there isn't room for improvement. I've come to the conclusion that David Yates is far too self-devout (thanks to hubby for that description) for these movies. He doesn't appear to care NEARLY enough about the story. But he didn't screw this one up royally so I guess I can let him continue to exist (even if he's really lame at the whole "existence" thing).

Anyway, I did leave content. The big-scene-that-I-won't-reveal-here-because-I-don't-want-to-spoil-it-for-anyone (which hubby TOTALLY did to someone on a message board last week) totally got me. I cried. And actually, everything leading up to it had me feeling like I wanted to throw up because I knew it was coming and I felt like the actors were THAT GOOD. So well done there (to the actors, NOT to Mr. "I'm-So-Lame" Yates).

For a two-and-a-half hour movie I felt it went really quickly, which is always a good sign. The soundtrack for this one was spot-on (unlike the last one which I deemed "all kinds of wrong"). I was never bored and actually could have sat through another thirty minutes easily.

Issues: after thinking about it, I do wish there were things they hadn't left out. I obviously won't name specific parts of the story right now, but there were scenes that should have made the cut. I will say that the whole "teen-angst-love" theme was funny. But there was a little bit more than necessary. I can think of a couple parts that could have been shortened or left out in order to make room for more story. I think by this point we get that the Hogwarts students are growing up and hormones are coming into play. It's fun to watch and all, but I'm more into the story than extra fluff.

Reading this I realized it sounds like I hated the movie, but I didn't! It's a LOT better than the fifth one in the series, but not up there with the first ones. As a movie that's being viewed just for a good time (as in, not a rabid fan of the books) it earns a solid A. As a movie that's supposed to be an adaptation of a wildly successful series it earns a C. Maybe. So I guess we can average that out to a B. Fans of the books, if you can go in knowing that there's no way we can see ALL of the material on the screen, you should be fine. If you go in ready to pick it apart, don't bother going. Aren't movies supposed to be fun?

BTW, hubby and I just discussed the movies a bit. If Lord of the Rings is allowed to be three hours, WHY can't Harry Potter be longer? And if I hear the lame "kids can't sit through it" excuse, I'll just laugh at you. At this point, we've definitely gone into some dark magic...

PS - I totally got to see a Where The Wild Things Are trailer on the big screen for the first time. I came pretty darn close to tearing up. I cannot WAIT for it.

Wish List Wednesday

Wow! The slacker is blogging! It's amazing!

Okay, not really that amazing. But doing a wish list every week is fun, and easy. So why not do it?
So last night I went to a party for those decorative wall graphics. You know, the ones you can slap just about anywhere. And I pretty much wanted half the catalog. So I thought I would get on Etsy just to show you guys some of the more fun ones I wouldn't mind having around here.
This one cracks me up. I would totally put a face on my toilet. Who cares if it scares the kids?
I want this one over my bed. It's just cute! Without being overly cute.
I want a growth chart for Tad. And this one would be AWESOME. I'm seriously thinking about it.
Love love love this. Not sure where I'd put it, hubby wouldn't want it anywhere I'm sure.
And these branches are OUTSTANDING. I even kind of like the black wall that it's on...

And this is totally ridiculous, but I love it. Hubby would definitely not let me put this one up anywhere. He thinks I'm silly already. The wall graphic would just confirm it.

So what do y'all think? I love these as an option because they're totally removable (perfect for renters like me). I can think of hundreds of places to put these things too...

I Think I See a Pattern

I post for a few days in a row, then take a few off. And give lame excuses.

Oh well. It's hard to be motivated to blog when I have a 5-year-old to hang out with and it's obscenely hot outside. Maybe once he leaves I'll post again.

Wish List Wednesday

Okay, so since last week was soooo girly I figured this week would be a bit different. Hubby and I went to a quinceanera last weekend and we realized that he really doesn't have many "nice" shirts. And the ones he has are mostly long-sleeved. So today's list is full of things I would gladly put in hubby's closet. Whether or not he'd wear them might be a different story...

via Old Navy

via Buckle

via Target (there's no WAY he would wear this)

via Old Navy

via Buckle (blazers are out, his arms are too long to avoid custom fitting)

Even if hubby isn't into fashion, I still love him. Even if he wears holey t-shirts with stains around the apartment.

Yay!

I get to go pick up a little manlet tonight. He's going to spend a few days with us and I am so ready to keep him busy while he's here. Some possibilities while he's here...
  • go see a free family movie this week (possibly two)
  • take some walks
  • give him a chance to get behind the camera (I really want to get his perspective)
  • paint a birdhouse
  • play with some flashcards (that I have yet to make... oops)
  • practice writing and math and all sorts of things
  • swim
  • library trip
  • bake and/or cook together
  • farmer's market
  • park

I am so excited and we are going to be busy beyond belief. We may not do everything on the list, but everything has run through my head.

Oh, and mom, we'll of course go visit you. Just let me know when is good for you. Want to go to the farmer's market with us Saturday morning?

I Totally Do Not Need This

And yet I totally do.
I promise that if by some miracle I get this glorious machine, I will run every day just so I can enjoy donuts at home without growing a butt large enough to justify its own zip code.

Oldies

These have been around for a good amount of time, but I will never find any of these unfunny. So enjoy some random videos for your Friday.

First, don't forget to leave Britney alone. (There is potty mouth in this for those of you who haven't seen it or just forgot.)

And I'm so going to be like this dad. If my kid is this crazy after the dentist, the video camera is coming out.

And one more for the day. From The Soup. I kinda have a crush on Joel McHale...

Ouchie

So I meant to post earlier, but then I did stuff. So sorry this is a little late in the day.

As y'all know (because I'm a big fat whiny baby) I was sick this last week. Actually, it all started almost two weeks ago now. Felt my throat swelling, checked my tonsils, saw it was the same crap I've been getting for seven or eight years now. Yeah, I have recurring tonsillitis. Yeah, I should have them out. But I don't want to, I'm scared.

So I started antibiotics. And started feeling better. Then after five or six days it started coming back. And this time I was feeling worn out and feverish. Then Tuesday morning I woke up flushed. All of which point to the oh-so-delightful STREP THROAT.

Yeah. That was fun. And we do have insurance now, but we don't have our cards yet. So no normal doctor appointment for me. So hubby went to work and called me to come in because it was slow and I could actually get in semi-quickly. Drove the thirtyish minutes to the hospital he works at. An hour and one shot later, I was headed home.

So I'm aware I look totally pathetic here. That's semi-on purpose. I just wanted to model my fashionable hospital bracelet for all of you.

And there's where I got my shot. NO THIS IS NOT A PICTURE OF MY BUTT! You can see the band-aid and it's actually pretty high up there. Like you would be able to see it if my shirt didn't cover it.

And now I'm feeling a whole lot better. The spot where I got my shot is still a little sore. But my throat is looking better and I'm feeling a whole lot better. No more fevers or anything. I'll still have to go to a regular doctor (actually probably an ear, nose and throat specialist) in the future and possibly have to have my tonsils out. But for now, I'm good. Thanks for the sympathy and get-well-wishes!

Wish List Wednesday

So I contemplated not doing a wish list and just filling you in on my getting better. But I'll hold off, because some people might need a pick-me-up of pretty things to get you through you mid-week.

So last night while hubby was at work I watched Enchanted. I freakin' love that movie. Amy Adams is so amazingly and ridiculously "Disney." So I was inspired to do a super girly post. Sorry guys, it's all frills and pretty things today.

this dress is so plain and pretty and looks super comfy

these heels are KILLER

a pretty ruffly pillow

I LOVE the ruffles and bow on this top

this is the girliest, frilliest little purse I think I've ever seen!

and this makes me sigh with happiness

Nothing's Changed

Still slacking off. I'm sick. So I'm gonna play that card.

Looking at symptoms, I probably have strep. Tad had it a few weeks ago, so I guess it was just waiting to attack me at a really crappy time. When I have a party to go to this weekend. Ugh.

So now I'm probably going to have to go to the hospital hubby works at to see a doctor. Because for some reason our insurance provider doesn't have our insurance info yet. Which seriously pisses me off...

So if I'm not around it's because I'm annoyed and feeling crappy and annoyed. Yes, I said "annoyed" twice. You would too if you were going to have to get a shot in the a$$ when you finally go to the doctor.

Slacker

That's me. I haven't uploaded pics. I just dread doing it. So I'll give you pics that are already here...

These are the things that happen when Tad is here with us.
We turn uncle Tim's old shirt sleeves into ninja headgear. And Tad poses.
Tia Ashley bakes cookies. And Tad happily cleans the beater for me. He actually helps make them too.
Uncle Tim brings medical things (mask, cap, gloves) and we let Tad give us check ups.

And I sugar the kid up and pour frosting straight into his mouth. Because I am his aunt and it is my job to spoil him.

Thinking about it, I dread what my mother will let my kids get away with one day. Dad already let Tad have baked beans for breakfast one morning...

Fireworks?

Who's got 'em? We're going to my mom's and there's no kids so I don't imagine we'll be doing fireworks this year. But there will be an insane amount of food. And my family. Always a good time.

In other matters, I've been a bad blogger. I'm placing the blame on my computer yet again. I really need a new one. Hubby said maybe when school starts up. We'll see. A lot is hinging on the timing of our move (no house yet, but we're sick of renting here for several reasons).

So tomorrow I will TRY to upload the camera again and give you some recent pics. I actually did a decent amount of baking and cooking this week so I can always post about that. Although tomorrow may be sewing Sunday with mom...

Anywho, happy 4th to all of you! I hope you get to spend the day doing something fun!

Discuss

I'm going some blog-stalking and came across a FABULOUS pair of shoes that are slightly vintagey, slightly naughty, and way hot! But I didn't look at the price because chances of me being able to afford them are pretty stinking slim...

But hubby saw my expression and asked what was up. I told him, "Shoes." And then he told me that he saw Beyonce in a tabloid recently (probably bored at work) and her shoes (which he says "look like someone went to the dump, found scraps, and attached them to a shoe bottom") apparently cost $4,600. Did you miss that?

$4,600 for butt ugly shoes

He then proceeded to say, "And you know she didn't pay for them. They were totally given to her."

Which brings me to a question: why do the ridiculously rich celebs get free crap? Like, an insane amount of free crap. The people who can afford it don't always have to pay for it.

I can honestly say that if for any reason I was famous (which I have no talent so that's not gonna happen) I would pay for my stuff. What Louis Vuitton? You want to give me your new bag for spring? Let me pay for it. Designer gowns Carolina Herrera? How about I just bring my cousins to pick out prom dresses instead?

Seriously, I would so rather give the free stuff to someone who had no chance of owning something so fabulous otherwise. So discuss (like any of you actually discuss in my comments, ha!). Would you take freebies as a celeb who could more than afford them?

Wish List Wednesday

**This was supposed to automatically post this morning. Not sure why it didn't.**
Today's list was totally easy. Ever since my sister picked hot pink as one of her wedding colors I've been wanting everything pink that I come across. I'm pretty stoked to wear my hot pink wedding shoes again as a bridesmaid. Seriously. Way stoked.

So to get some of the pink out of my system, I thought I should base today's wish list on the color.
now I know I said I can't wait to wear my shoes, but if something were to happen to them, I would take these from Baker's in a second. Aren't they fabulous?
I am watching this ring on Etsy, I think I need it for the wedding
I'd like to think I could pull off this headband. I'd definitely try!

and I have a pink clutch (also from my wedding), but this one was too cute not to pass along

super cute pink sunglasses from Forever21

I would wear this headband to death, by NevaPlume on Etsy

Now I'm off to convince hubby to buy me that ring...
