First

Just checking in to see how everyone spent their first day of 2011. I got in a nap with the fur baby. Watched a Jaws marathon on Encore. Snacked on random food I happened to have at home. Never changed out of my sweatpants. Built a nice fire. And started a book. I'm guessing when hubby gets home we'll do more of the same. Maybe grab some dinner because cleaning the kitchen was NOT part of my day. :) Hope everyone else was able to relax and enjoy their day.

Perfect

Perhaps you've already glanced over at my Twitter today. I have the formula for the perfect Saturday. That's the condensed version. Here's the full one.

Listen to a 5-year-old play in his room for a little bit. Smile as he does his Wall-E and Eve voices.

Snuggle on the couch with that same 5-year-old because the apartment is cold.

Make oatmeal with the 5-year-old. Let him help and avoid freaking out when he makes a bit of a mess.

Let the 5-year-old put the brown sugar and cinnamon into his oatmeal. Dread the coming sugar buzz when you see the heaping spoonful he puts in.

Watch The NeverEnding Story and relive your childhood while wishing it kept the kid's attention better. Also, try to convince the kid that Falkor is NOT a dog. Even thought he has dog-like ears.
What's next on our perfect Saturday? We're going to my mom's as soon as we're dressed. We'll veg in our jammies a little longer.

One More

Yesterday was one more day trip for Tad. He starts school on Monday (don't even get me started!) so we thought a trip to the beach was in order. And he told me in the car last night that he had a fun day. Mission accomplished.

So what exactly did we do yesterday?
  • drove to Pismo with a quick stop for breakfast
  • quick stop for some beach toys at Target, where Tad made out like a bandit in the dollar spot
  • an attempt at sand castles
  • playing in the FREEZING water, first with uncle Tim, then me, then uncle Tim again
  • burying Tad in the sand
  • writing our names in the sand
  • using the FREEZING outdoor showers with the surfers... and still having sand in one little boy's shorts
  • heading into town for some lunch (BBQ at Mo's, you must go)
  • sitting at lunch and hubby telling me that Chuck Liddell's trainer just walked into the restaurant, then trying not to act like a big fangirl
  • hitting up a candy store (like I need it!)
  • driving over to SLO
  • some shopping, including their big toy store
  • dinner at Woodstock Pizza, because you MUST do that when in SLO
  • dodging strollers and college kids at Farmer's Market
  • making two girls almost pee their pants when they pushed each other right into me and Tad (we'll just say mama-bear came out)
  • having Dippin' Dots (yaaaayyy!!!!)
  • getting some Kettle Corn (which Tad smelled and commented on every time we walked by the booth)

Today is more stuff. Swinging by my mom's, taking our library books back, hopefully work on invitations while Tad plays a bit, and other fun things that I won't be able to do nearly as much because my baby is going to school Monday.

If you can't tell, I'm really struggling with this whole school thing. I may be a mess on Monday.

wow wow wow

I am WIPED OUT from yesterday. Baking for hours Friday, baking again yesterday, whipping up some frostings to finish the job.. then cleaning the house, the pool, prepping food.... Add to that staying up drinking with everyone last night and I'm ready for a nap.

Today I have to go do some more cleaning. It was a good party, a good fight, good food and good people. We may get together and swim again today and kill some of the leftovers.

But for today, no pictures. I'll save that for tomorrow when you will gain ten pounds just by looking at the desserts I ended up making. Not a bad way to start a Monday, right?

Party!

Yup, we're having a party today. Little brother-in-law's birthday happens to fall on the same day as UFC 101. Which also happens to fall on a day that my parents are gone and let me use their house (and pool).

So I'm off getting ready today. Frosting cupcakes, prepping burgers, and other fun things.

What sucks is that I came to a realization. With my plans to lose weight I probably shouldn't be baking just for the heck of it anymore. So when I get around to posting the fabulous stuff I made for today, it might be the last for a couple months.

Unless someone wants to hire me to make some for them. *hint hint* It totally doesn't have to be for a party, if you just have a hankering for a dozen cupcakes then hit me up!

Friday Y'all!

As I typed that I was saying it in my head in a very Britney Spears voice. So I have issues... but I've got a hundred things to do today so my brain is a little off.

Woke up and went to Wal-Mart to return a dress (not enough room in the chesticle region) and happened upon a cute shirt for five bucks. Then came home and had some cereal, read the paper, and watched the finale for SYTYCD. I wanted one of the girls to win, so I was happy. By that time I had digested enough to go for my run, so I did. *whew* I hate that I let myself get out of shape, this is going to be actual work!

And now I have to make two kinds of cupcakes (okay, I don't have to but I'm an overachiever), head to my mom's to clean a bit, make a grocery list, and if I have any spare time start planning a bridal shower.

So let's take a moment to watch some goodness this Friday. Since I'm throwing a bridal shower in a few weeks, I chose to go with cute proposals. Which I sat here and watched. And cried. Because I'm a big fat girl.

The only way hubby could have done better (he proposed at Disneyland) would be to do this. We heart Scrubs.

This one made me giggle. I've had that song sung to me at karaoke before. Stupid boys.

I love this. Did I ever tell you guys about the time that we saw a proposal at a concert? It was when we saw Diamond Rio. Every girl in the audience squealed and cried. Myself included.

This is just insanely cool.

And this is the cutest, coolest, most awesome thing ever.

What a Monday

I was quite out of it today. Infection in my throat, congested, and just tired. My medicine left me wonky (likely because I didn't eat enough).

But I'm staying hydrated and I'm going to SLEEP tonight. So here's hoping I'm back to 100% tomorrow.

Blank

I'm tired. I didn't feel good last night. So I slept like crap. Hubby is sick. And the kid is SUPER energetic.

No good blogging happening, sorry.

More Plans

So I actually did do some stuff yesterday. I made my crackers, WHICH ARE TO DIE FOR. I will be making them again. Possibly soon. Possibly today...

I went to my sister's and hung out. Took a few pictures of the kids, but not many. We were having fun just hanging out. But I took one of my niece that I LOVE and can't wait to print.

Didn't dye hubby's shirt. But it's on the list. We're wondering if it will stain our sink so giant bucket may go on the shopping list.

And now today I have more stuff! Not until later though. Housewarming party for one of my oldest friends, maybe the car show at church, Saturday night service with mom and dad (since I'm doing everything else with them), then after church we'll head off to dinner where hubby will meet us since he'll be off work by then.

And I don't care where we go, I am getting a mojito. Been craving one since I had one last week.

Plans

I like having plans in mind. As of right now plans for the day include:
  1. Making something. I don't know what yet. Did you know that homemade crackers are pretty easy? I might try some of those.
  2. Taking some pics of some adorable kids. No, I'm not going to go crazy and take pictures of random kids. I need to hit up my sis and see if she still wants me to come over and take some. Hanging and chatting with sis will of course ensue.
  3. Read up on screen printing. Because apparently it's not too difficult and I love the idea of making custom shirts for the kids. And hubby. And everyone else I know.
  4. Maybe... just maybe... dye hubby's shirt. Because he threw it in the bleach load and it has some splotchy action going. But I don't want to overdo it, so it needs to be watched. Which means being home. So we'll see about that one.

So I've got some stuff planned for this fine, cloudy Friday. And I'm actually hoping it will rain because I've got this image in my head of my niece playing with an umbrella that I think will make for excellent pictures...

Oh, and because it's Friday, I want to give you something good to look at. So here, watch this video. It's just called "The Raptor."

I almost peed my pants laughing the first time I saw it. Mom, I know you're doing the same thing. Doesn't it remind you of NICK???

hmmm

Haven't done my baking for the day. Woke up and took grandma to work, finally disposed of the spider plants out front, then spent some time with hubby. And I'm not sure what I want to bake today...

So do not want to do desserts right now. I did brownies yesterday and I'll spend the whole day in the kitchen tomorrow doing cupcakes.

Maybe some rolls or biscuits with dinner. Is it cheating too much if I use Pillsbury biscuits?

Crazy Days

So I gave you a bit on Friday about what I was doing. We had rescued a duckling Thursday night. And we took him to live in Madera. He was supposed to get a friend (a little chick!), but I haven't been back to see him. Here he is hanging out with us though.

Yesterday I baked. And made filling and frosting. Sissy was having a party at her house and I was going to make cupcakes. It was one of "those" girl parties so I wanted to do something appropriate. That's when I realized the contents of the shot known as a Blow Job would translate into some EXCELLENT cupcakes. And I was so right.

Chocolate cake with just a little coffee and Kahlua. Bailey's filling (some STRONG Bailey's filling). And Kahlua whipped cream frosting. So. Good. I may play with it a little before I make them again. Because whipped cream loses it's prettiness when left out. And the filling may be too strong for some people. But, WOW!

And the fun part of yesterday... I totally burned my arm. I haven't burnt myself cooking since high school. And this one's a good one. So turn away if you have issues with wounds. It's not gross, but some people...

See? Ignore the funky lines around it, I had just taken off my band-aid. It's not bad though. I'm still functioning. I even braved the oven again today. But that's another blog post...

This Time Last Year...

Hubby and I are sitting watching The Price is Right (because my buddy Steven was in the audience, and I found him!), duck-sitting Bromberg (did I mention we rescued a baby duckling last night?) and planning our day.

Off to Madera (where Bromberg is going to live). Then the baking supply store (I have my first paid cupcake gigs next week). Then down to my former college campus to buy some oh-so-delicious zwiebach.

What? You don't know what it is? Only the best bread in the universe. It's a Mennonite thing. Which I didn't know about until I transferred to my school. They only sell it one weekend in April as part of a big thing at the school.

And that got me thinking. Last year, on the Friday of the big event, hubby and I had another busy day. I was student teaching half a day. Then we went to get our marriage license! Then we went to get bread.

Just random that I remembered that. And crazy that it was already a year ago. Our anniversary is coming up in just over two weeks!

I'll try and remember to take pics of our adventures today. Especially little Bromberg. :)

What a Day!

It was a full day!

Woke up early and read the paper before the kid woke up.
Made waffles. From scratch. With apple topping. And remembered that I hate making waffles.
Took the kid to see Monsters vs. Aliens. So funny. Kid, hubby, and I loved it.
Took the kid to the park for a bit.
Went to dinner at Red Robin, where the kid DEVOURED his mac and cheese.

I was super excited about the previews at the movies. Pixar's Up was on again. And the new Ice Age movie. There was also Land of the Lost (which I'm still looking forward to). PLUS there was a preview for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (only one of my favorite books as a kid!). I was pretty excited for that.

Then tonight I finally watched the trailer for Where the Wild Things Are. I'm not gonna lie, I got a little bit of a chill when I saw the wild things. They look just like the book. And I love them. I'm totally taking the kid. And he even said he'll go dressed as Max.

It was a good day.

Nothing Here

It's Wednesday.

Hubby is off and made coffee this morning. Always a good way to start the morning, especially since it's been strangely cold in our apartment. Like, seriously cold. I have to sit here with a blanket as I watch television at night. So yay for coffee.

I have a new student to tutor this afternoon. I meet with her at four. And the family only lives about five minutes away. Score! I can live with that!

Then I think I have church tonight. My aunt is going to call me. Their kids' group needs more adults, but not just any adults. They need women. My aunt is the only female adult working with them, but there are four or five men. So since I worked with junior high (and high school) back in the day she asked if I could go help. So we'll see if she calls.

Other than that, I have to bake. I got home late last night so didn't get to make cupcakes. Which led to hubby craving them. So I owe him some today.

And I also need to figure out what my next craft project is going to be. I'm thinking I should try sewing something on the machine next. Now to decide what...

So that's my day/life today. How's yours?

Lost... and Today's Plans

Ohhhh Lost last night. How I love and hate it right now.

I threw things. At the television. Not heavy things that could do damage, just some crafting supplies. Stupid Sawyer. Stupid Juliet.

There are many more questions and little things, but the Sawyer-Juliet thing is at the front of my mind. Ugh...

So today I have plans... work out, use the education website (that I totally forgot about) to look for a job. I can actually apply online too, so I'll be doing that. And... I'm going to get some hairs cut. Possibly cutting bangs... pics to come tomorrow.

What are you doing today?

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hope you've got something good planned, even if you're not celebrating for one reason or another.

We're staying in tonight. Which means I've got some cleaning and cooking ahead of me. And I have to get the kid bathed and to my mom's house. I do promise to get pictures up at some point. Really.

You Can Fire Me

I'm not going to post any pics today. This is actually the first time I've been online all day. It was another busy day around here. Hubby, the kid, and I ran around a bit. Took him to mom's work where everyone marveled at the kid's cuteness. I tutored a bit. Brother-in-law came by. And now I have a toddler asleep on my leg.

I'll honestly try to post tomorrow. Swear.

Thursday, February 12, 2009

Oh, hi there

I totally forgot to blog today didn't I? Oops.

And right now I'm about to throw the booger-faced kid (seriously, he's got a cold) into the bathtub so that doesn't give me long to talk at you.

I'm going to pick up a couple hours tutoring this weekend. Some unexpected money is always good. And my mom's going to watch the kid for us Saturday so we can have the dinner we had planned.

And that's life. I'm really struggling to sit out here and pay attention to what's going on in my household when I have New Moon sitting on my nightstand in the bedroom. Yup. Shout-out to Claudia for letting me borrow it! The library totally didn't have any copies checked in. And Claudia is the "Twilight Crack Dealer" at mom and hubby's work (yes, they work at the same place). She was totally awesome enough to let me borrow the second one.

Alright, the kid is sitting here staring at me, waiting for his bath. Guess I have to go now. Pictures tomorrow!

Wow

Is it really after two in the afternoon already?

Tad and I have had a busy day. We were up at eight eating cereal because "his tummy was starving." Then I saw that one of our grocery stores had a super good deal on cake mix, frosting and the like. So off we went to the store. And ever since we've been home we've been crafting and eating (he's a bottomless pit right now).

I'm pretty excited about some of our cute Valentiney stuff. I'll have to post pictures later.

Off to do more creating!
