Ummm... we waited for four hours. Have been super pumped for weeks.

AND THE THEATER WE WERE SEATED IN HAD ISSUES AND WE COULDN'T SEE THE BIGGEST MOVIE OF THE FREAKIN' YEAR.

Weekly Manicure

Technically this is the second time I've done my nails this week. All in honor of Harry Potter tonight!!!!

Lightning bolts was as creative as I was about to get. I thought about doing house colors, but changed my mind. This was easier. I'm about to go pick up my cousins and drive by the theater to check out the line situation. I've not done a midnight show for one of these movies. Us girls may or may not be making goofy videos in line...

Since I will mostly likely be too exhausted to blog tomorrow - have a great Friday friends!

Mooovies

Did you know we actually have a drive-in left where I live? An actual drive-in movie theater. Well, not in MY city, but just twenty minutes up the freeway where hubby used to live. And you know what's sad?

Up until last night, hubby and I had never gone together.

I know, right? Well yesterday sissy texted me to see if we wanted to go with her and the kids. I told her as long as it wasn't an awful kid movie (let's face it, some of them can be pretty torturous) we'd go. We lucked out, it was X-Men: First Class and the newest Pirates of the Caribbean. Neither of which hubby and I have taken the time to see. And we were actually thinking of seeing X-Men on our date today! So we packed up the cars, the ice chest and the kiddos and spent a night at the movies.

BTW, if hubby and I ever play the lottery and WIN, we're totes opening a drive-thru in our city. We used to have one. Now it's a Costco and Home Depot. :/

So the movies were really good. LOVED X-Men. But I love James McAvoy. A lot. The story was good though. And the kids liked it. Well, what they saw. All four of them were asleep by the end. :) We stayed for Pirates anyway because all us adults wanted to see it. And that was fun too. Critics who gave it bad reviews must have been PMSing or something, because it was exactly what another Pirates movie should be. Johnny Depp will always be amazing as Captain Jack Sparrow.

But no post about my time with the kids would be complete without some cuteness from them, would it?

Tad fell in love with my purple hair. He said I look like a superhero.

At the movies, during X-Men, he happened to look up at the sky. Then I hear, "Tia Ashley look. The Big Dipper." That's my little astronomer. But it gets better. His little brother Anthony went to sit with him (he's four) and Tad starts pointing out the Big Dipper to HIM, trying to show him where it is and explaining that the stars can make pictures like connect-the-dots. That boy makes me melt.

Then we all got a good laugh out of Cole who, when we woke him up to get in the car, asked, "Is Pirates going to start??" No honey, you missed it. Maybe next time. :)

And there will be a next time later this summer.

Kids Obsess About Things

I've known that children can be obsessive about things. I've noticed that Tad picks some odd things to fixate on sometimes. But it's usually pretty amusing.

Like yesterday.

My mom bought him some 3D chalk. (Have you seen this stuff? It's actually really cool!) So of course we have to test it out. While we're out he draws what looks like a squiggly line with a circle on top. Then starts drawing something at the bottom. So I ask him what it is.

"A cow getting sucked up in a twister. Remember? Like the ride? He's saying 'Moooooooo!'"

Of course I died laughing because I totally know what he's talking about. In Orlando there was an "experience" based on the movie Twister. In line they showed movie clips and the main actors talking about tornadoes and the cow scene got shown. That cow scene apparently stuck with him. So he drew cows being sucked into tornadoes.

So what did we do? Went out and bought the movie for him last night. And watched it while we ate. I think he liked it :)

Yes. Yes. Yes!!!

Another Day...

... another movie.

I got up this morning and was excited to watch a movie I had set my DVR for last night. Penelope. With Christina Ricci and James McAvoy (*sigh*). It was really cute. Like, REALLY cute. I might save it instead of deleting it for the time being. Or just go add it to my Amazon list.

Go rent it (or Netflix it since that's the thing to do now). And it's totally okay for your kids, so feel free to make it a family movie night.

Right now I have Stardust and P.S. I Love You recording. So it looks like tomorrow will be another movie day. Gotta love movie channels...

Alright, off to get presentable and go to my mom's so I can do some sewing. Stinkin' Christmas coming up all fast and stuff...

Movie Review... ish

So did anyone actually see Australia? That movie with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman? I kind of enjoy Baz Luhrmann and his weirdness. I liked Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet. So I figured I could give this one a shot. I mean, HELLOOOO, Hugh Jackman.

And it was actually good. Not great. I liked it, but don't feel a need to buy it. It runs two hours and forty-five minutes which felt a little long. The story was good. You totally hate the "bad guy," there are kids involved, there's of course a love story... I liked it.

But the best part?

DEFINITELY Hugh Jackman. Holy crap that man is hot. It kind of helps that he actually got to speak in his normal accent for this movie (did I mention accents KILL me??). But yeah, yum. I don't know if I've liked him as much as I did in this movie.

So if you have three hours to kill, or if you're doing projects (like I was) and want a movie on to help you out, watch it. If you don't have much of an attention span, don't. It's that simple.

No no no NO!

First I wake up sneezy (stupid allergies), then I find out my music player isn't working for some reason.

And now this.

Remaking My Fair Lady?! I swear, Hollywood needs a swift kick in the rear. I will NOT go anywhere near this remake. You DON'T remake Audrey. Period.

Wish List Wednesday

So since I FINALLY got to see Where the Wild Things Are yesterday it was easy for me to come up with a theme for today.

And since some people may want to know, I'll throw in a mini-review. Um, I loved it. I think Tad liked it. I think mom liked it (she had the day off since she just got back from vacation). Hubby liked it. I only cried once (instead of the billion times I thought I would). And I think the best part was hearing the actual lines from the book here and there. Hearing them gave me warm fuzzies. I choose not to address the aspect of whether or not it's a kid movie. If you really want to know, email me.

Okay, we kind of have a theme for our tree and it's definitely NOT involving Max, but I would throw a theme out the window if I got these ornaments. They're adorable! Maybe I'd even hang them in Tad's future room. (via nannyCakes on Etsy)

Goodness

Goodness just for you. I had another post planned, but it got shelved while looking up goodies from Comic-Con this year.

And yes, I'm a nerd and followed all the goings-on at Comic-Con closely. I'm also 99% sure hubby and I are going next year. I'm also 90% sure I will dress up at least one day if we go.

Anywho, I found this link via Twitter. Apparently there was some extra goodness regarding Where The Wild Things Are. This featurette has an interview with Maurice Sendak! And once again, I proved my wimpy girliness by tearing up as I watched it. I seriously don't know if this movie can come soon enough for me!

So watch and enjoy. And marvel (like I did) at what Mr. Sendak says at the end of the video.

Sorry to Depress You

It's the weekend and I like to post happy things, but this story had me in tears this morning as I read the paper. And then I saw it pop up online and I had to post it.

Pixar totally came through and helped out a little girl with her dying wish.

Colby Curtin lived in SoCal and had a rare form of cancer. All she wanted was to see the movie Up. Ever since she saw the previews. But she finally got to the point where she was so sick that she couldn't make it to the theater.

So a family friend got in touch with Pixar, who flew out an employee with a DVD copy. Just so she could see it. She died seven hours later.

The whole story is here (and up top). I can't even give you all the details because reading the story a second time still makes me tear up.

Trailery Goodness

I can't believe we have to wait for Christmas for Sherlock Holmes. Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, and directed by Guy Ritchie? Sign me up. Heather, you're with me on this one, aren't you??




And by the end of the month we should have a New Moon trailer. Apparently it's going to debut at the MTV Movie Awards. *sigh*

Trailer Time: Childhood Faves Edition

So I mentioned seeing a trailer for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs yesterday. Hubby somehow had no clue what book I was referring to! Well, the theater we went to happens to have a bookstore in the same plaza, so we went there afterward. Because how could I miss the opportunity to share the book with hubby and the kid??? I bought it. Came home and read it to the kid.

Just watched the trailer again. And even though they changed the story a bit, I'm still looking forward to it.





Then there's Where the Wild Things Are. The book has been a favorite of mine FOREVER. And I was really excited when the kid took to it. We even have puppets that he HAS TO HAVE when we read it. I already confessed that the trailer made me a little misty. It's the monsters! They're perfect and I love them!

Of course it looks like they had to add a bit to the story about Max, but that's kind of expected when you look at the length of the book. I can't wait for October...





Looks like my movie season is extending into fall this year...

What a Day!

It was a full day!

Woke up early and read the paper before the kid woke up.
Made waffles. From scratch. With apple topping. And remembered that I hate making waffles.
Took the kid to see Monsters vs. Aliens. So funny. Kid, hubby, and I loved it.
Took the kid to the park for a bit.
Went to dinner at Red Robin, where the kid DEVOURED his mac and cheese.

I was super excited about the previews at the movies. Pixar's Up was on again. And the new Ice Age movie. There was also Land of the Lost (which I'm still looking forward to). PLUS there was a preview for Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (only one of my favorite books as a kid!). I was pretty excited for that.

Then tonight I finally watched the trailer for Where the Wild Things Are. I'm not gonna lie, I got a little bit of a chill when I saw the wild things. They look just like the book. And I love them. I'm totally taking the kid. And he even said he'll go dressed as Max.

It was a good day.

Trailer Time!

Part of dinner is in the oven. Hubby should be home shortly. And the news is on in the background.

Several blogs that I read have posted this trailer this week. So I'm following their lead. I totally want to see 500 Days of Summer when it comes out. Zooey Deschanel is possibly my biggest girl crush (okay, at least top three). And now that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is all grown up... totally adorable. And the trailer references The Smiths (yay!) and Sid and Nancy. Sold.

Movie Review

Wednesday night we felt like a movie. Since the kid is still with us (I totally don't mind that either!) we knew it had to be something kid-friendly. So we settled on Coraline (or as Tad says it, "Toraline"). We didn't catch it in 3D because of price and because the theater that's two minutes from us didn't have it in 3D. I'll survive.

Okay, I fully expected some weirdness and some coolness. Tim Burton was involved so it wouldn't be right if it wasn't a little weird.

But it was weird. Not in a bad way. I really liked it. The idea behind it was good, there was a little message for those of you that like messages.

And the stop-motion animation... ohhhhh. LOVED it. The whole beginning sequence was super fun to me because I've been so into stitching and such lately. And the rest of the movie... awesome. Her other-dad's garden was possibly my favorite scene in the movie. It was just cool.

Hubby liked it. "Cool movie, kind of creepy." I'll agree that there was a little creepiness there. It's not as much a kid movie as you'd like to think it is. But Tad liked it. He did admit to me that there were parts that were scary though. But apparently not that scary. He didn't crawl into my lap or anything. He was totally focused the whole movie.

So I'll give it a solid A. Just don't expect your average three-or four-year-old to be enthralled. It's not as juvenile as one would expect.

And previews? Oh how I love previews. There was one for Monsters vs. Aliens. I hadn't actually seen a trailer for that one. It looks HILARIOUS. I may be taking a trip to see that one. Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs also came up. It was the squirrel-thing again in his own little moment with the acorn. Tad loved that. I may see it, but not likely in theaters unless Tad asks for it directly. There was also Up, the new fun from Pixar. It looks weird, but you know I'll see it. Pixar always has awesomeness. Then there was this weird flick called 9. I really am still not sure what was going on with it. It doesn't look like a kid movie. But it looks like one of those movies that you'll regret not seeing on a large screen. Tim Burton is involved in that one too. And Christopher Plummer does a voice. So there's two big reasons for me to want to watch.

Okay, enough of that for one review. No telling when the next review will be, but keep an eye open.

I will post trailers OFTEN. As has been pounded into your heads, I love movies. Therefore I share things like trailers.

Hubby found the trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine tonight. Since it's on IMDB I can't embed it, but here's a link to it.

Add another one to the summer calendar. That might end up being one that has to be seen twice in the theater...

M is for...

M is for movies! You know I love them by now. Summer movies are ridiculously exciting for hubby and I. If someone doesn't know what to buy us, they remember movie passes make us deliriously happy.

My best guess would put us at... one hundred fiftyish movies sitting on our shelves. That's actually not a lot now that I think about it. I guess I thought we had more. Of course there are plenty that we don't own that we wouldn't mind owning.

And speaking of movies, I'm sitting here watching a Veggie Tales DVD with the kid. We love those veggies. And we know all their songs. I'm thinking the sing-along may come next...

EEEEEE!!!!

I love movies. You should know that by now. I especially love when movies are made from childhood favorites and look promising. I loved Transformers (hellooo Josh Duhamel) and have been waiting (not so patiently) for Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Well, if you watched the game yesterday (I didn't, hubby found this online for me) you saw the FIRST TEASER TRAILER!!! I must share if you didn't see it...




There was also a teaser trailer for GI Joe. Dude, I grew up on that. My brother had all the toys and we totally watched the cartoon. Throw in the fact that Channing Tatum (hotness!) is in it and you got me...




Then on youtube, while I was looking up these trailers, I found one for Land of the Lost. Looks different than I remember it, but hey, it has Will Ferrell. Love him. So I'll share that with you too...




I am SO READY for summer to get here so I can get myself to the movies!!!!
